Diversifying Activism: Bed Activism by Disabled and Sick People of Color

Join Dr. Akemi Nishida, University of Illinois Chicago professor and author of Just Care: Messy Entanglements of Disability, Dependency, and Desire, for a talk on how bed can be a site for social critique, radical resistance, and another world making. This talk will describe bed activism as it expands entry points to and strategies for social justice work. It will center the wisdom emerging from bed spaces of sick and disabled people of color who often find the mainstream movements inaccessible as they challenge hegemonic notions of who are leaders and knowledge holders for social change. Nishida will explore what social justice work can be when we center our vulnerability and inherent interdependences on one another in such work.
